On October 4, 2024, Angry Birds 2 will join the UK games industry in supporting One Special Day, an annual event dedicated to raising funds for the SpecialEffect charity. For one day, all proceeds from in-app purchases in Angry Birds 2 will be donated to SpecialEffect, who work to provide custom controllers, assistive technology, and personalized support to physically disabled gamers so that they can experience the joy, connection, and sense of accomplishment that gaming offers.
One Special Day & SpecialEffect: Making a Difference
SpecialEffect is a UK charity founded in 2007 that works to improve the quality of life for people with physical disabilities by providing specialist equipment and support to enable them to play video games. The charity has helped thousands of people with physical disabilities experience the joy, connection, and sense of accomplishment that gaming offers. They have also worked closely with game developers to create more accessible games through their accessibility Dev Kit.
Additionally, SpecialEffect has been a development partner for the Xbox Adaptive Controller, which is a customizable controller designed for gamers with limited mobility, and the Sony Access Controller, which is a similar controller for PlayStation consoles. They have also worked with game developers such as Rockstar Games, Ubisoft, and EA to make their games more accessible.
The annual One Special Day event unites the games industry in a collective effort to support the work of SpecialEffect, and Rovio is happy to announce that Angry Birds 2 will be joining that effort for a seventh year, donating all proceeds from in-app purchases in the UK for one day on October 4.
